BRATTLEBORO — Join the Windham County Humane Society on Saturday, Sept. 28, for their 17th annual Walk for Animals Event Fundraiser.
The Walk will begin at the Grafton Village Cheese Company on Linden Street in Brattleboro. Registration opens at 9 a.m., and the walk starts at 10. After a short, 2-mile route through town, participants will return to Grafton Cheese Village for ice cream, treats, and prizes.
Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome at the walk (no flexi-leads please). All walkers who raise $50 or more will get a Walk for Animals T-shirt. Pledge forms can be found at www.windhamcountyhumane.org.
“The Walk for Animals is not just a whole lot of fun, it is also an essential fundraiser for us,” WCHS executive director Annie Guion said in a news release.
Last year, Guion said participants and corporate sponsors raised more than $40,000 for WCHS. “We hope to surpass that amount this year,” she said.
Guion said the humane society “is doing great things for animals and the people that love them.”
In the past year alone, Guion said WCHS has offered low-cost wellness and spay/neuter clinics that provided more than 400 surgeries and gave more than 700 vaccinations. They also offer adoption services, as more than 750 families have taken in WCHS animals.
WCHS also has a pet-food pantry and affordable wellness-care help, which Guion said are helping to prevent animal suffering and neglect.
