Climate change: much worse than we’re being told

WILMINGTON — I am writing in support of the Climate Emergency Declaration that appears on the Brattleboro Commons Sense website.

A former officer in the United States Coast Guard, I am a career business executive who voted Republican in every presidential election until 2008. That's when I registered as an Independent, choosing to align myself with candidates whose vision for the planet is best aligned with my own.

When it comes to the terrors of climate change, we're all in the same boat and must work together toward maximizing our chances for survival.

We all have different ways of fighting climate change and must put aside our political differences as we take on a truly global problem that is affecting all this planet's species - including humans.

In my work as a researcher, writer, and speaker on sustainability issues since 2002, I have gotten to know a great many of the world's leading authorities on climate change, and they all agree that things are much worse than what we're being told by our government and the media.

We are definitely in the middle of a global climate emergency.

Finally, I sincerely believe that we still have a chance to save ourselves - but only if we can join forces and get started in earnest very soon.
