BRATTLEBORO — Town Clerk Hilary Francis says that petitions are now available for town officers, school district officers, and Town Meeting members.
Town elections take place Tuesday, March 3, at American Legion Post 5 on Linden Street. Voting in Vermont's presidential primary also takes place that day.
The Annual Representative Town Meeting takes place Saturday, March 21 at Brattleboro Area Middle School.
Petitions for town and town school district officers must contain at least 30 valid signatures of registered Brattleboro voters and be filed in the town clerk's office no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, in order to have their names placed on the ballot.
Candidates for Town Meeting member must file a nomination petition with at least 10 valid signatures of voters from the district where the candidate lives.
Petitions of new candidates must be filed no later than 5 p.m. on Jan. 27 (the same date as town officer petitions).
Incumbents for Town Meeting Member must return their Notice of Intent form no later than 5 p.m. on Jan. 27.
Officers to be elected will fill seats now held by three members of the Selectboard: David Schoales's three-year seat, and two one-year seats currently held by Elizabeth McLoughlin and Daniel Quipp, respectively.
Also on the ballot are one-year seats for moderator (held by Lawrin Crispe) and first constable (held by Richard H. Cooke), and three seats for lister (Thom Franks), trustee of public funds (held by Tyler Boone), and unified school director (Emily Murphy Kaur).
Open Town Meeting member slots as of last week include 26 in District 1, 17 in District 2, and 20 in District 3. More seats might need to be filled depending on how many incumbent members take out nomination papers.
The deadline for petitions to request an article be placed on the Representative Town Meeting warrant is Thursday, Jan. 16, at 5 p.m. The Town Meeting warrant must be posted by Feb. 2.
The annual Windham Southeast School District Meeting is March 17. Early ballots for municipal and presidential primary voting will be available Feb. 12.
