Inclement and wintry pattern returns, followed by seasonably cold weekend

Hello and good day to you, fine citizens of southeastern Vermont! We've got an active pattern on the way, so let's sketch in the week for you. Our Wednesday will be generally fair, but clouds will increase Wednesday night and snow will be breaking out across Windham County after midnight.

We could see 1 to 3 inches or so of accumulation before snow changes to sleet sometime early-to-mid Thursday morning, with sleet and freezing rain possible into the afternoon. Ice and rain is expected Thursday night before changing to heavy rain for the first half of Friday.

After changing back to snow Friday afternoon, the storm exits to the east giving us a cold but fair weekend with a few snow showers possible Sunday afternoon. We will turn milder early next week with fair conditions expected. Let's dive into the dailies!

For Wednesday, a cold front will have dropped south of Vermont. This will provide a cold but fair day with partly sunny skies and highs in the upper 20s to low 30s. Clouds will increase Wednesday night, and lows will drop down into the low to mid 20s. Low pressure will be approaching from the southwest.

For Thursday, snow will overspread the region and light accumulations are expected, generally 1 to 3 inches, starting after midnight. By the dawn, it will be snowing and possibly mixing with sleet by that time as well.

Expect delays and slippery driving conditions Thursday morning. Milder air aloft will flip any snow over to sleet and freezing rain by noontime Thursday. Highs will only reach the low to mid 30s.

Icy precipitation could mix with plain rain near Brattleboro and other towns adjacent to the Connecticut River as we enter a lull later Thursday afternoon. However, ice and rain will pick up intensity later Thursday night into the first half of Friday, with heavy rain at times. Lows will remain in the low to mid 30s.

For Friday, a rainy morning is in store, but cold air will be approaching from the northwest as the second storm in as many days pulls away to the east. Rain will change to snow by Friday afternoon, and some light accumulations are possible. Highs will reach the upper 30s, and then plummet to the low to mid teens by dawn Saturday morning.

The weekend looks cold and fair, with a low chance for snow showers Sunday afternoon. Expect mostly sunny skies Saturday with highs in the 20s and lows in the teens, and mostly cloudy skies Sunday with highs near 30 and lows near 20.

Early next week turns milder with highs in the upper 30s to near 40 for Monday and Tuesday with showers possible by mid week. Have a great week!
