We don't need to go to war. We only need to learn from history - and vote.

BRATTLEBORO — In the beginning of our history, patriots realized the necessity for the separation from Great Britain. In our Declaration of Independence, they wrote their reasons, including these self-evident facts about King George:

• He refused to obey the laws.

• He did not allow his governors to pass laws of immediate and pressing importance until he gave his assent.

• He has obstructed the administration of justice.

• He has interfered with immigration.

• He has cut off our trade with allies.

• He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us.

The current president is in a position of power for which he was not qualified nor prepared, and for which he has shown neither the desire nor the ability to do the work required.

• He is someone who offends our allies, yet who glories in the favor of dictators; who believes he does not have to obey the laws of the land; who rules by bullying, including tweets from the toilet.

• He has introduced the concept of alternative facts to prop up his alternative reality.

• He has not provided the leadership we need in this pandemic.

• He belittles education and science, and mocks those who speak truth.

• He has even mocked basic prevention techniques such as face masks. He seems unable to recognize that he cannot bully a virus.

• He has installed others to positions of leadership, although they also have no competence.

• He has shown no respect for his country, his position, or the people.

At one time, we had to go to war to gain our rights. Those rights are now being eroded by a tyrant wannabe. This time, at least so far, we are not called upon to go to war to defeat him.

We are only called to learn from history and to vote according to the principles of the United States of America.
