Work begins on South Main sidewalks
BRATTLEBORO - The town has contracted with LaRock & Son Inc. to replace the sidewalk on the west side of South Main Street between Cotton Mill Hill and Pine Street.
This project will be ongoing for several weeks and, at times, operations will require one lane, alternating traffic, as well as no parking in the area. Residents are asked to be aware of no parking signs, and drivers should be prepared for alternate traffic patterns during this work.

Timson Hill Spring Fling Festival
WILLIAMSVILLE - Timson Hill Preschool, 13 Timson Hill Rd., hosts its annual Spring Fling Festival on Saturday, May 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be activities for children, hot dogs and hamburgers available for purchase, and bake sale items donated by the parents and board of Timson Hill Preschool.
Entry is by donation and all proceeds help support Timson Hill Preschool. No one turned away for lack of funds. The preschool still requires masks while indoors. Masks are optional while outdoors. For more information, call 802-348-6319.

NEWFANE - Get on the list for the Community Tag Sale at the Newfane Flea & Farmers Market on Route 30. Sunday, May 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., for the “soft opening” of the market for the coming season.

Senior lunch served
DUMMERSTON - Evening Star Grange and Senior Solutions will have their next noontime Senior Lunch on Wednesday, May 25, with pick-ups available from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The in-house meal will be served at noon.
The menu will be roast pork, mashed potatoes and gravy, marinated carrots, fruit jello salad, with carrot cake for dessert. A vegetarian option is also provided. Reservations are requested, call 802-254-1138 and leave your name, phone number and the number and type of meal you wish. A donation of $3 for those 60 and older and $4 for the younger folks is suggested.
Monthly free produce available May 26
PUTNEY - The Vermont Foodbank and the Putney Foodshelf will co-sponsor the next monthly drop of free produce and some nonperishables on Thursday, May 26, from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at Putney Meadows, 17 Carol Brown Way (the white building across from the Putney Food Co-op and the fire station).
All are welcome. Because of COVID-19, remain in your car at pickup, and volunteers will bring out bags.
Soup Fest benefits railroad museum
NEWFANE - The sixth annual Soup Fest and Silent Auction fundraiser will be held on Sunday, May 29, at the NewBrook Fire Station on Route 30. The event will help raise funds for the Historical Society of Windham County's West River Railroad Museum.
You won't have to ride the “36 Miles of Trouble” to sample homemade soups from Brattleboro to South Londonderry. These restaurants from “up the gauge” of the West River Railroad line are catering to you: Whetstone Station, Brattleboro; Top of the Hill Grill, Brattleboro; Rick's Tavern, Newfane; Harmonyville Store, Townshend; The Dam Diner, West Townshend; Wardsboro Country Store, Wardsboro; West River Provisions, Jamaica; Family Kitchen & Pizzeria, Winhall; and New American Grill, South Londonderry.
Doors open at 4 p.m., with a suggested admission donation of $5 to $10. Bidding and the 50/50 raffle open at 4 p.m., and end at 5:30 p.m. Soup and bread will be served at 5:30 p.m., with desserts to follow.
Seating will be held under the cover of the garage bay with all bay doors open; a take-out option is available. The auction will be spread throughout the main hall to allow ample social distancing.

Experienced Goods prepares for June move
BRATTLEBORO - This June, Experienced Goods will be moving from the Transportation Center at 77 Flat St. across the street to 80 Flat St. in the C.F. Church Building, right next to the current donation drop off location.
The store will continue to be open for a few more weeks in the Transportation Center, and new inventory is being put out daily so everyone is welcome to continue shopping.
“The new location will provide more room, free parking, and enough space to keep growing new life from old things,” Brattleboro Area Hospice said in a news release. “The leadership and crew have been working on this for months and we expect to open our new space in the beginning of June.”

Chester Plant Sale is May 27–29
CHESTER - The annual Chester Plant Sale at St. Luke's Church, the gray church at 313 Main St. near the Village Green, features a wide selection of proven large, healthy, hardy plants at bargain prices.
The sale includes numerous perennials well suited to this region, herbs, raspberry plants, dahlia tubers, and some special annuals and propagated shrubs, plus homemade preserves, fresh rhubarb, a loose-leaf gardening journal, and one-of-a-kind pastel notecards of birds and flowers.
The well-groomed plants will have helpful labels and flower photos that will make garden planning easy; and experienced gardeners will be on hand to give advice about planting and garden design.
