Selectboard seeks to fill committee vacancies
BRATTLEBORO - The Selectboard is looking for citizens to serve on the following committees and boards: Agricultural Advisory Board (regular and ex-officio members), ADA Advisory Board, Arts Committee, Brattleboro Housing Partnerships Board of Commissioners, Cemetery Committee, Citizen Police Communications Committee, and Conservation Commission.
Vacancies also need to be filled on the Design Review Committee and the Development Review Board (regular and alternate members), Energy Committee, Hazard Mitigation Committee, Honor Roll Committee, Planning Commission, Recreation & Parks Board, Senior Solutions Advisory Council, Traffic Safety Committee (one Chamber of Commerce representative), and the Tree Advisory Committee.
Also needed are Fence Viewers (by statute, must be legal voters of the town); Inspector of Lumber, Shingles, and Wood; and a Weigher of Coal.

History Group hosts annual tag sale
WARDSBORO - On Friday, May 27 through Sunday, May 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily at the History House on Route 100, the Wardsboro History Group will host a tag sale fundraiser.
Items for sale include a nesting dining table, linen shelf, antique rockers, dry sink, lawn chairs, large and small dining room buffets, original framed artwork, original painted glass items, new wedding cake stands, two lovely sets of china, collectibles, three portable electric typewriters, a full bin of records, Bryer collectible horses with a homemade stable, assorted baskets-some made of birch bark, books, and two large antique dolls.
There will also be toys, tools, clothes for women and men, snowshoes, antique metal ice skates, and other items too numerous to mention.
Welcome Center bake sale benefits WDVFD
WEST DUMMERSTON - The West Dummerston Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will be hosting a bake sale at the Welcome Center on Interstate 91 in Guilford on Saturday, May 28. They are seeking donations of individually wrapped and labeled baked goods, along with beverages such as bottled water, juice, and soda.

Plant, bake, and book sale benefits friends of the library
WARDSBORO - The nonprofit group Friends of the Wardsboro Library is sponsoring its annual fundraiser, the Memorial Day weekend Plant Sale, on Saturday, May 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m at 170 Main Street. The library trustees will also hold a bake sale and book sale at the same location, from 9 a.m. until all the homemade goodies are sold.
The plant sale features a large variety of hearty perennials, colorful annuals, shrubs, Gilfeather turnip seedlings, vegetables, and herbs, all reasonably priced. A one-day-only raffle of select garden-related prizes is scheduled, with winners announced at the close of the sale.

Marlboro Morris Ale marks 47th year
BRATTLEBORO - The 2022 Marlboro Morris Ale will be held on Saturday, May 28, and Sunday, May 29. Teams of dancers will perform throughout Brattleboro on Saturday, culminating in performances by all the morris and sword teams beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the eastern end of Elliot Street, which will be closed to traffic.
On Sunday, the teams will dance in various Windham County locations, gathering for a final en masse public performance at 4:30 p.m. in front of the historic Windham County Courthouse at the Newfane Common. Visit marlboromorrisale.org for more information.
This is the 47th Marlboro Morris Ale, returning from a two-year hiatus. Prior to that, teams of dancers from all over North America, and occasionally the UK, have gathered in southern Vermont since 1976 to dance, make music, and celebrate the arrival of spring and coming of summer. NEWFANE - The NewBrook News is a volunteer-run newsletter that is mailed quarterly to all postal addresses in Newfane and Brookline.
Have you any news to share? The next issue will come out the last week of June and will cover July, August, and September. Does your group or club have any events planned? Do you want to write a story or poem? Make a puzzle or maze? Has your group done anything recently that you'd like to share with your neighbors?
Submissions of 350 words or less are welcome at [email protected]. Deadline is Friday, June 3, at noon. Photos, drawings, illustrations also welcome. Donors and advertisers are also welcome to help cover the cost of printing and postage, which is about $1,200 per issue.
Cemetery association to hold annual meeting
SOUTH NEWFANE - The South Newfane Cemetery Association will have their annual meeting on Saturday, June 4, at 10 a.m., at the Community Association Schoolhouse at 387 Dover Road.
Recent repairs will be discussed and trustees will be elected. All interested persons are invited to attend.
Edible Brattleboro hosts plant and seed swap
BRATTLEBORO - A free plant and seed swap and giveaway, hosted by Edible Brattleboro, takes place on Saturday, June 4, at the Edible Brattleboro Greenhouse, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Retreat Farm, 45 Farmhouse Road. Park in the parking lot across the road, and walk through the tunnel to cross.
“It's not too late to plant a garden,” organizers say. “Oftentimes we purchase a six-pack of starts and only have space for two plants. Bring your extras to our plant and seed swap or come empty-handed and go home with whatever you need. We'll accept your extra seeds as well.”
And if you want to start gardening, but don't have any garden tools, Edible Brattleboro is teaming up with Brooks Memorial Library to provide garden (and kitchen) tools at the library's new Red Cottage, located behind the library near the Municipal Center parking lot. All you need is a Brooks library card to borrow your tools. A grand opening of the Red Cottage is also planned for Saturday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the library.
Time to get your new WSWMD permit
BRATTLEBORO - Got trash? Windham Solid Waste Management District (WSWMD) makes it easy to handle your unwanted stuff in one stop, six days a week. Valid from July through June, $40 access stickers are available and won't expire until June 30, 2023.
With an access sticker, WSWMD qill take your recycling and food scraps (compost) for free at its Old Ferry Road transfer station. And, for reasonable fees, they take regular trash, scrap metal, furniture, mattresses, and home appliances, too. They also offer special recycling programs for electronics, batteries, paint, tires, used motor oil, and fluorescent bulbs.
