Windham Southeast announces a passel of new school district hires

BRATTLEBORO — The Windham Southeast Supervisory Union and Windham Southeast School District have hired several administrators.

Kate Margaitis will serve as principal of the Green Street School in Brattleboro after serving as an assistant principal at Brattleboro Union High School.

Most recently she served as Green Street School's interim principal, replacing Mark Speno, who had been appointed as the interim superintendent of schools for the Windham Southeast Supervisory Union last summer and has been named to the permanent role.

A resident of Brattleboro, Margaitis has spent the last 15 years in education and has experience as a high school health and biology teacher and administrator.

Cassie Damkoehler has been appointed as an assistant principal at BUHS, where she most recently served as dean of students. A resident of Turners Falls, Mass., Damkoehler has spent the last five years in education as a special educator.

Traci Lane will serve as interim assistant principal at BUHS during Assistant Principal Christopher Day's two-year leave of absence for military service.

Lane comes from the Contoocook Valley (ConVal) School District in Peterborough, N.H., where she served as interim associate principal. She lives in Milford, N.H., and has 30 years experience, including as a special educator.

Tate Erickson has been appointed director of special education, coming to Windham Southeast from the Windham Southwest Supervisory Union in Wilmington, where he served for nine years as director of special education.

Erickson replaces Shelley Wilson, who is leaving WSESU after 20 years.

Tate, of Williamsville, has spent the past 19 years in education and has experience as a school psychologist and director of special education.

Whitney Lynde will serve as elementary special education coordinator. She most recently served as a special educator at the Academy School in Brattleboro and replaces Liz Dimick McLaughlin, who is leaving WSESU after 10 years of service, including two years as elementary special education coordinator. Lynde, of Guilford, has been an educator for 16 years, including as a case manager and special education teacher.

Brin Tucker will serve as curriculum and assessment coordinator. She most recently served as an instructional coach and classroom teacher at the Green Street School.

Tucker has been an educator for 17 years and has experience as a classroom and academic support teacher, instructional coach, data consultant, and data coach.

To date, no mention has been made as to whether Brattleboro Union High School Principal Steve Perrin, who has been on an unexplained administrative leave since spring break, will return in September or if someone else will be stepping into that job.
