BELLOWS FALLS— Jeff Potter, editor of The Commons in Brattleboro, Vt., will give a free workshop “Art of the Interview,” on the art and craft of using quotes accurately and effectively, at the Rockingham Free Public Library (RFPL), Monday, Oct. 19, 5 p.m.
The presentation is in response to popular demand for a continuation of the workshop Potter gave in September, called “Other People’s Words.”
First-timers are also welcome.
Knowing how to get interesting quotes from your sources can give a shot of adrenaline to your writing.
If you work with nonfiction—newspapers, newsletters, press releases, Web sites—you can make your copy more interesting when you include quotes.
But how do you get these quotes?
Follow us on a field trip through an interview or two, a journey that will point out the decisions you can make on the fly to make the most of the conversations you have with your source and the techniques you can use to get those quotes into your notebook.
In addition, Potter will show participants how to use quotes effectively—and accurately—in your writing.
This workshop is open to the public—no previous writing or journalism experience is required. Participants are invited to bring a project or share successful techniques.
This workshop is part of the Media Mentoring Project (MMP) which promotes media literacy and community participation in local media. The adult program meets once a month for a journalism skills workshop.
The workshop is limited to 15 participants. To register, call RFPL, 802-463-4270.
