Retreat offers adolescent
drug abuse workshop

BRATTLEBORO—Ken Winters, Ph.D., will speak at the Brattleboro Retreat campus Nov. 19 at an all-day workshop for mental health professionals, which will provide a clinically-oriented overview of the assessment and treatment of adolescents suspected of problems due to drug abuse.

The workshop begins at 8:30 a.m.,  includes continental breakfast and lunch, and finishes at 4 p.m.

Winters will cover developmental issues, interviewing, screening and assessment, and clinical characteristics of drug abuse.

The emerging science of adolescent brain development will be discussed, as well as treatment strategies that have been scientifically tested and evaluated.

A professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Minnesota and senior scientist at the Treatment Research Institute, Winters directs brief intervention studies in school and juvenile offender settings.

He is consultant to many organizations, including the Hazelden Foundation, National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, and the World Health Organization.

To register, call  Gay Maxwell, education coordinator, 802-258-4359, or go to www.brattlebororetreat.org.

The cost is $140, and CEUs are available. Those who register online will receive a ten percent discount.
