Four years ago, I met and adopted Gypsy, a medium-sized beagle hound, from the Windham County Humane Society. My wife had died the year before, and I was seeking some companionship. Although my building, the Brooks House, does not allow pets, its management did make an exception for Gypsy when I produced a note from my doctor confirming my need for a companion dog.
Gypsy was one of 12 dogs sent from Puerto Rico to Brattleboro from the nonprofit rescue organization and shelter Amigos de los Animales. She was accompanied by the following statement.
