At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month 100 years ago in 1918, World War I - “the war to end all wars” - ended. It is with honor that we as a nation stand together every year on Nov. 11 to recognize those who fought for freedom and for what they believe in: you and me.
President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Nov. 11 Armistice Day and, in a 1919 speech, he stated, “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations[...].”
Our veterans have given us a gift that will keep on giving each day as we as a nation are provided the opportunity to grow and flourish in all aspects of life. To many around the world we are the guiding light of hope.
So, I ask you, why is it that we celebrate our veterans just one day a year?...
