Town to digitize records
VERNON — VERNON - The Selectboard unanimously supported Assistant Town Clerk Aina Lindquist's recommendation to hire Good-Way Document Service to digitize some of the town's land records.
Lindquist told the board at its Feb. 1 meeting that there are 19 books' worth of records that need to be scanned. She said other towns have used Good-Way Document Service, and the company comes with good references.
For a fee of $6,995.05, Lindquist said Good-Way will scan the books, keep a copy, and digitize them for computer access. They will also print a copy to silver film, which the town can store in the vault, Lindquist said.
The money to pay for this service will come from the town's restoration fund, Lindquist said, noting there is $19,821.24 in the fund.
Town seeks fence viewers
VERNON - The town is looking for new fence viewers.
Fence viewers, according to state statute, “examine fences within the town when requested to do so by the Selectboard.
“When called upon to act, the fence viewers must give notice to all interested parties, or their tenants or agents, of the time when they will examine the fence or line between adjoining lands, before they make a division relating to the fence or line.
“All decisions of the fence viewers must be certified and recorded with the town clerk. A decision so certified and recorded is valid against the parties and their heirs and assigns.”
Prospective fence viewers must be qualified voters of the town, and must be appointed and sworn into office by the Selectboard. Those interested in the post should contact Selectboard Secretary Catrina Lawley at 802-299-7337 or [email protected].
Wheelden is new town Fire Warden
VERNON - John “JJ” Wheelden Jr. was recently appointed town Fire Warden by the Selectboard. He replaces Ray Capen, who resigned in December.
