Covered bridge is fixed, but ant damage is found

DUMMERSTON — DUMMERSTON - Construction on the covered bridge spanning the West River is complete.

“That went well,” Roads Foreman Lee Chamberlin told Selectboard members at the April 12 regular Board meeting.

Renaud Brothers finished the work early in the week of April 10, ahead of schedule. The roof trusses on the eastern end of the bridge needed extensive repairs after a delivery truck collided with the bridge in February, causing $63,000 in cosmetic damages.

The company responsible for the accident, WW Building Supply, covered all repair costs.

But, during repairs, a Renaud employee found other damage to the bridge, caused by an ant infestation - although the project foreman, and Chamberlin, agree the ants are likely “all gone.”

Chamberlin is working on getting an exterminator on the bridge to make sure. “It wouldn't hurt to have somebody look at it and put a preventative spray on there,” he said.
