According to a news release, the Northern New England Region of the Red Cross responds to some 500 home fires every year.

“When a disaster occurs, many of us feel the need to do something to help,” said John Keppler, a volunteer Disaster Action Team leader from West Chesterfield, N.H.

Trained Disaster Action Team volunteers are ready to respond to local emergencies, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. These volunteers turn compassion into action by offering a shoulder to cry on, meeting immediate needs for shelter or supplies, connecting people with long-term recovery services and more.

“Every 8 minutes, the Red Cross responds to a disaster,” said Clifford LaPlante, a Disaster Action Team leader from Keene, N.H. “You can ensure that families don't have to face tough times alone.”
