WARDSBORO — In December and January, the Wardsboro Public Library, 170 Main St., is exhibiting the pottery of Erin Stewart and Will Finkel.
Finkel took his first pottery class when he was 5. He has spent the majority of his life working in, learning about, or teaching clay all over the country. His work has drawn acclaim for its style, lightness, and particularly the colors that he has achieved in his glazes over the years.
Stewart has spent her life in one form of artistic expression or another - from poetry, to music, to painting - but she found ceramics while pursuing her undergraduate degree at Keene State College and fell in love with the medium. She combines a whimsical fluidity in her thrown pots with extraordinarily detailed painted surfaces.
The two artists met when they became studio mates in 2013. Several years of friendship led to dating and a partnership that has embraced all parts of their lives, including their art; Finkel's thrown pieces have become the canvas for Stewart's drawings and designs.
The couple moved back to Finkel's hometown of Wardsboro in 2018 and are slowly moving toward their dream of building a pottery studio on their hill. They hope one day the studio will serve as a place for everyone in the community to have the opportunity to share in their love and play with some clay.
Stewart and Finkel's art can be seen during library hours. Many items will be available for purchase.
