Open Meeting Law reminder

VERNON — VERNON - At the June 15 Selectboard meeting, the board and its Secretary, Catrina Lawley, reminded the town's committees that their minutes, agendas, and meeting warnings must comply with Vermont's Open Meetings Law.

Board Chair Christiane Howe told the board each committee is responsible for warning their meetings, and posting agendas.

Lawley said the Town Clerk will post minutes, but it is up to the committees themselves to send meeting minutes to her. Board member Steve Skibniowsky noted the committee members will send draft minutes, because the minutes are often not approved until the next meeting, and Open Meeting Law requires speedier sharing of minutes.

According to 1 V.S.A. sect; 312(b) of Vermont's Open Meeting Law, minutes must be made available five days after the meeting.
