Gary Sachs offers ‘twisted anti-nuke fear-munging fact-less information’ in letter

Re: “It is about time people saw the truth about nuclear power” by Gary Sachs [Voices, Nov. 16]:

Gary, I don't know where you get your twisted anti-nuke fear-munging fact-less information from.

From everything I have read, when you take 650 megawatts off the power grid, you will pollute the air more (using more coal), make us more dependent on the Middle East (using more oil), make the price of electricity go up, and make us have more blackouts.

For those who don't know (not Gary, because he knows everything - or so he seems to think), 650 megawatts powers more than 500,000 homes. Do you really think you can just take that power off the grid without consequences?

Also, oil, coal, gas, and renewable sources are subsidized more than nuclear.

I have worked in the nuclear industry for 28 years. So, Gary, tell us your background in nuclear. So were you in the nuclear Navy? Or have you worked in nuclear power? Or do you have a nuclear engineering degree?

Could you tell us in detail how this catastrophic accident that will make the area uninhabitable for thousand of years is going to start? Could you tell us what systems are going to fail to cause this accident?

Because it hasn't happened in America.

Also, if this country reprocessed spent fuel as France does, we would have a whole lot less of it.

So take that anti-nuke chip off your shoulder when you talk to people who really know what they are talking about.

By the way, Gary, I notice you live in Brattleboro, right around the corner from Vermont Yankee. I was wondering why you live so close to something you conceive to be such a big threat to you and your family.

Gary, I think you are full of -!
