Last Night Brattleboro features an evening of traditional song and dance tunes

BRATTLEBORO — Last Night Brattleboro presents the 14th annual concert of New England, Irish, and French-Canadian dance music; fiddling from around the world; singing; and poetry.

The concert is Thursday, Dec. 31, at the First Baptist Church, 190 Main St., starting at 7 p.m.

Keith Murphy (guitar, mandolin, piano, foot percussion) and Becky Tracy (fiddle) will play dance tunes and traditional songs.

Tracy plays with the contra dance band Wild Asparagus, while Murphy plays a central role in the Childsplay concerts both as a musician and an arranger. They are founding members of the Nightingale trio. They teach traditional music at the Brattleboro Music Center and their music was featured in the Ken Burns documentary on the Roosevelts.

They will be joined by their son, 14-year-old Aidan Murphy, on ukelele, fiddle, and vocals.

The duo of Zara Bode and Stefan Amidon, a.k.a. The Little Green Apples, are also members of the Sweetback Sisters - a renegade retro band that mixes up country, swing, and honky tonk - and the a cappella group, the Starry Mountain Singers.

Amidon also tours now with the Americana band The Devil Makes Three.

Peter and Mary Alice Amidon have been freelance musicians and educators for more than 20 years, traveling across the country bringing their songs to children, music teachers, and choral singers.

They have recently published two collections (books and CDs) of their choral arrangements and compositions.
