Readings, Halloween book giveaway at Moore Library

NEWFANE — A pair of authors reading and a Halloween book giveaway are on tap for October at Moore Free Library.

Novelist and short story writer Vincent Panella will read at the library on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m.

Panella's stories have appeared in several small magazines. His four published books are a memoir, The Other Side: Growing Up Italian in America; a novel about young Julius Caesar, Cutter's Island: Caeser in Captivity; a story collection, Lost Hearts; and, most recently, a novel, Sicilian Dreams.

Panella will read from published and unpublished work, and books will be available for sale.

Robert Goodby, a professor of anthropology at Franklin Pierce University, will give a presentation drawing from his newly published book, A Deep Presence: 13,000 Years of Native American History, on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. The book draws on archaeology to tell the story of the native Abenaki people of what is now southern Vermont and New Hampshire.

On Sunday, Oct. 31, a Halloween book giveaway for children of all ages will take place on the porch from 5 to 7 p.m., rain or shine.

The Moore Free Library is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 to 5 p.m.; Wednesdays and Fridays, noon to 6 p.m.; and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A listing of events can be found at or by calling 802-365-7948.
