BRATTLEBORO — Mitchell-Giddings Fine Arts, 181–183 Main St., presents Tableaux, an exhibition of oil paintings by Bakersfield artist Rona Lee Cohen, with an opening and artist reception on Gallery Walk Friday, May 6, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The exhibit continues through June 19. A percentage of sales will be donated to the International Rescue Committee in support of its efforts in Ukraine.

Working with oil on paper, Cohen “explores relationships between everyday objects which happen to- momentarily-reside on a small table; often, hanging portraits or perhaps a colorful rug share her intimate interiors,” according to exhibit organizers.

“I find, unfind, refine, unrefine. It's an unpredictable, unsteady process,” Cohen said in a news release. “There is a place where the seen touches the unseen and unravels a bit, moving in and out of something sensible.”

Exhibit organizers say “from Cohen's arrangements emerge shimmering tableaux where household items dissolve into glorious passages of paint. Hers is a rare triumph of painting instinct, reverence, an astonishing eye for subtle tonal shifts and design, and a deep and obvious love of the emotive power of a simple, unassuming beauty.”

Mitchell-Giddings Fine Arts is opens Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call 802-251-8290, email [email protected], or visit
