Girl Scouts make special cookie delivery to Warming Shelter

BELLOWS FALLS — The members of Junior Girl Scout Troop 40107 recently made a special delivery of cookies to the guests of the Greater Falls Warming Shelter.

Scouts Kendra Atkin and Abby Joslyn, accompanied by co-leader Melanie Atkin, brought two boxes of each of their five famous flavors of cookies to the shelter, with each box sporting a colorful decoration and a message from the girls.

According to Atkin, the troop members chose the shelter as the beneficiary of their donation after seeing a shelter pamphlet at their meeting place in the Bellows Falls United Church.

“The girls love to help others,” she said.

Atkin added Troop 40107 leaders are always looking for volunteer projects for the girls, and plan to include the shelter in their projects next year.

According to the shelter's Facebook page, the warming shelter closed for the season April 16. During the 155 nights it was open during the 2012-13 season, it housed 51 people for a total of 1,196 “bed nights.”

Eleven of those guests moved on to permanent housing, with several others finding other arrangements, a post read.
