Bluebird Marionette Theater performs at Cotton Mill

BRATTLEBORO — A Tale of The Tontlawald, an evening of entertainment featuring music by The Bluebird Orchestra, film shorts, and a marionette show, will be presented at the Cotton Mill in Room 357.

The first half of the evening will feature The Bluebird Orchestra playing some of their original songs and improvising music to two very short silent films: “Princess Nicotine” and “Artistic Creation” from the turn of the (last) century.

After a brief intermission, The Bluebird Theater will present “A Tale of the Tontlawald,” a marionette show of an Estonian fairy tale.

Marionette performers from the ensemble will act out this tale using language direct from the text. It is a story celebrating the benefits of venturing into dark places and having imaginary friends. The Bluebird Orchestra plays throughout.

The Orchestra features Donald Saaf playing the Estey organ using the “think method” and singing, Matthew Sharff on bass and vocals, and Rick Contino on the pedal steel. Julia Zanes and Magda Sharff work the puppets. Voice actors are Collin Leech, John Shepherd, and Magda, Abby, and Matthew Sharff.
