Launch party scheduled for Covid poetry anthology

BRATTLEBORO — Write Action announces Poems in the Time of Covid, a collection of poems by 37 poets from the area and beyond.

A launch party will take place at the River Garden Marketplace, a new venue opened this month by the Whetstone Station restaurant and brewery, at 157 Main St. on Wednesday, Oct. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The anthology grew out of Poems Around Town (PAT), a project of Write Action, with support from Time to Write and the Brattleboro Literary Festival, in April, in which submitted poems were put in shop windows throughout downtown Brattleboro.

PAT was organized by board members Arlene Distler, Andy Burrows, Barbara Morrison, and Toni Ortner. The new book was designed by Burrows.

“Taken together, its many fine poems document our collective soul during a historic and trying time that has connected us to the world and one another,” board members note in a news release.

Books may be purchased at the launch or ordered from The $12 title will also be found at local bookstores.

The launch party includes cheese, wine, and other refreshments. Contributors will be invited to read their work.

Participants are requested to wear masks except when reading from work or when eating or drinking. Weather permitting, the riverfront terrace will be accessible.
