When the COVID-19 pandemic dealt a knockout blow to Strolling of the Heifers in the fall of 2020 that resulted in the suspension of the nonprofit's operations, an end to its annual parade, and the sale of the River Garden, many speculated over what would happen to what remained of the organization. I just wanted to say how great I thought the article about homelessness by Joyce Marcel was in the Aug. 2 issue. I've been troubled by this issue for a long time. The explanation by Gregg Colburn makes so much sense - and it makes clear why Vermont has such a high rate of homelessness. Of course there aren't any easy solutions, but at least we can maybe start to look at different ways to tackle it. The Commons continues...
