Update: Brattleboro gets a budget

After failing to pass a budget with a 12% increase in March, RTM agreed to an 8% increase Tuesday

BRATTLEBORO—Special Representative Town Meeting has approved a FY26 budget of $24,971,305 after failing to do so in March and sending it back to the Selectboard.

The body met Tuesday, May 27 at Brattleboro Union High School, after press time.

After almost two hours, the question was called and a roll call vote taken in which the proposed budget passed 110-4.

The vote to approve came after a failed amendment to add $43,045 to the budget, clearly intended to restore the Sustainability Coordinator’s post to full-time.

Also failed was an amendment proposed by Robert Oeser of District 9 to reduce the budget to a 4% increase to this year’s budget.

The approved budget represents an 8% increase, whereas the failed March budget was a 12% increase.

Oeser’s amendment would have necessitated cutting another $985,000.
