NBC's 'Today' to feature NECCA

BRATTLEBORO-At 9:10 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, Brattleboro's New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA) will be featured on NBC's Today, highlighting the school's Silver Circus class for students age 60 and above.

In early April, NBC Producer Kayla Steinberg called NECCA's Producing Director Serenity Smith Forchion with an idea. Steinberg had taken a few aerial classes in New York City and was searching for a good story line when she saw an announcement from NECCA about the Silver Circus class.

Steinberg pitched a Silver Circus story to NBC, and the network jumped on the idea.

Accompanied by a camera crew and Today reporter Chloe Mela, Steinberg spent two days in Brattleboro filming activities at NECCA's Trapezium, home to many programs including youth camps, adult workshops, and professional training.

They took in the ProTrack recital featuring aspiring professionals, filmed a flying trapeze class for locals dropping in for a swing, and captured youth jumping on the trampoline before focusing on the main reason they were in the building.

Mela jumped into the class, joining the silver-haired participants on low trapezes with feet still touching the ground, juggling in pairs, and spotting each other on low wires in shared activities designed to be fun and collaborative while invigorating balance, flexibility, and strength that can decline as the body ages.
