Paving projects in Brattleboro set to begin night of July 14

BRATTLEBORO-The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is about to begin a nearly $19 million night paving project on sections of Routes 5, 9, 30, and 142 within the town.

VTrans says motorists this week "should be vigilant for daytime sign installation and crews with uniformed traffic officers accessing the shoulders along all approach routes to the project."

Sign installation crews will continue to work on installing construction signs on all project and approach routes and will also be conducting project layout while plans for the project finalize. The agency says this week's work will be done during daytime working hours.

VTrans says the contractor plans to begin night work on Monday, July 14, at the intersection of routes 5 and 142 downtown and will proceed south on Route 5. Crews will be working from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday night through Saturday morning.

Night work will be taking place in the coming weeks:

• Route 9 from the Edward Heights intersection eastward down Western Avenue and High Street to the intersection with Route 5 on Main Street.

• Route 5 from Generous Street, extending approximately 1.9 miles north down Canal Street and Main Street to the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Putney Road, as well as from Vermont Avenue to Putney Landing Road near Interstate 91 Exit 4 in Putney. Work will also take place within the Exit 3 roundabout and from the roundabout east to the United States Navy Seabees Bridge to Chesterfield, New Hampshire.

• Route 30 from the intersection of Main and Linden streets to the intersection with Cedar Street.

• Route 142 from just south of the railroad tracks near Riverside Drive to the intersection with Route 5 at the traffic signal at the foot of Canal Street, skipping over the newly paved portion of Route 142 that was completed for the Brattleboro-Hinsdale bridge project.

VTrans says the work will be done in two phases, with most of the paving to be completed by this fall and the final phase of work completed by fall 2026.
