WILLIAMSVILLE-The Rock River Players will hold open auditions for Midnight in Vermont, on Saturday, Aug. 2, from noon to 4 p.m., at Williamsville Hall, 35 Dover Rd.
Midnight in Vermont, which will have its premiere with Rock River Players, is a traditional whodunit in the vein of Agatha Christie. It's the first full-length mystery play by Vermont playwright Michael Nethercott, who will also direct. Nethercott is the author of two suspense novels, and his stories have appeared in numerous periodicals and anthologies, including Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, Terrifying Ghosts Short Stories, and Best Crime and Mystery Stories of the Year.
The play is set in 1983 and revolves around the untimely death of the rock singer Virgil Dane, former leader of a popular 1970s band, The Midnight Rides. His aunt has gathered Virgil's former bandmates and associates in her Vermont home for the purpose of following up on suspicions that her nephew's death was no accident -but possibly murder. The suspects are a varied and unconventional lot.
The cast will include 14 actors of varying ages, genders, and time commitment. Rehearsals run from the last week of September through October, up until the performance weekends of Nov. 7 and 8, and Nov. 14, 15, and 16.
Those who are interested but cannot make the Aug. 2 audition, please email Nethercott at [email protected] to see if another time can be arranged. Any related questions can be sent to him as well. For more information about the Rock River Players, visit rockriverplayers.org.
