Thrush Hill Stage hosts Silverback Swing Band

MARLBORO-The Silverback Swing Band will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 314 Upper Houghton Rd., rain or shine. If the weather is inhospitable, the concert will be indoors in the Thrush Hill Studio at the same location.

The band plays music from French cafés of a bygone era - also known as Jazz Manouche or Hot Club music, in the style of the French Romani guitarist Django Reinhardt.

Silverback Swing's repertoire includes classic instrumentals of Django's band, The Hot Club of France, as well as other songs of the era that have become jazz standards.

Jesse Lepkoff, host of the Thrush Hill Stage concert series, reports on their website, "Silverback Swing Band brings the sizzling sounds of 1920s and 1930s vintage jazz to life with the spirit of Django Reinhardt. Featuring hot guitar licks, soulful accordion, rich upright bass, and smooth vocals, they create an irresistible swing that'll have you tapping your feet and dancing along."

Silverback Swing started as a weekly session at the former Gleanery restaurant in Putney eight years ago and has performed at festivals, clubs, breweries, and other spots in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. The band currently includes Alton Lathrop (lead guitar), Gus Hollingsworth (accordion, vocals), Steve Frankel (bass), and Mark Anagnostopulos (guitar, vocals).

Tickets are $20, available in advance at thrushhillstage.com or at the event. Concert-goers are welcome to bring a blanket and picnic. They will provide chairs and if outdoors, a campfire. No pets please. For more information, call 802-579-5943.
