Guilford Free Library hosts Sandglass puppet show and summer reading challenge

GUILFORD-The Guilford Free Library will kick off their summer programming Wednesday, June 17, from noon to 2 p.m., with a library party that will begin with an all-ages outside puppet show titled Punschi with Jana Zeller from Sandglass Theatre.

Originally created by Sandglass’ co-Founder, Ines Zeller Bass, Punschi is an enchanting tradition of imaginative puppetry in the tradition of German fairground entertainment. It features a selection of hand puppet acts, general buffoonery, and music, presented by this second-generation international puppeteer.

Punschi is an abbreviation for “Puppentheater unter’m Schirm” or “puppet theater under the umbrella,” a fitting title as the show is performed under a giant sun umbrella. The show encourages audience participation and response, and it is funded by a grant from the Vermont Department of Libraries.

The Guilford Central School, through Title 1 program funding, will provide information for parents about how to engage with their child’s learning. There will be snacks and free tote bags.

The library is also offering a summer reading challenge. Visit the library at least five times between June 16 and Aug. 29, check out something each time, and you’ll win a gift certificate for a creemee, cookie, or coffee at the Guilford Country Store. You’ll also be entered into a drawing for one of three larger prizes from local businesses.

All programs at the Guilford Free Library at Guilford Center Village, 4024 Guilford Center Rd., are free and open to all.
