Vermont Suitcase Company presents ‘My Lady of Whims’ at Next Stage

PUTNEY-The Vermont Suitcase Company returns to Next Stage Arts Friday, July 10, with My Lady of Whims, an original theatrical adventure inspired by the wit, excitement, and visual storytelling of classic silent films. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.; doors open at 7 p.m. at Next Stage Arts, 15 Kimball Hill.

With his annual fundraising gala fast approaching, a councilman faces a crisis: where is his daughter? If the newspapers discover she has been spending time with artists and free spirits down by the docks, his political ambitions could be ruined. Enter Otto, a hired gun tasked with bringing her home before scandal erupts. But Louisa, the maid, has plans of her own and sees an opportunity to claim the reward for herself.

As the search unfolds, the stakes grow higher. A banker threatens to demolish the historic hotel that serves as headquarters for the colorful cast of characters, while secrets, misunderstandings, and unexpected alliances propel the story toward its thrilling conclusion.

Packed with action, intrigue, romance, international affairs, and plenty of comedy, My Lady of Whims “captures the charm and exuberance of silent-era storytelling while bringing a fresh, contemporary spirit to the stage,” wrote organizers in a news release.

Audiences can expect imaginative physical theater, larger-than-life characters, and a fast-paced adventure filled with twists and turns.

The Vermont Suitcase Company has become known for creating inventive, family-friendly productions that blend humor, movement, and storytelling. My Lady of Whims continues that tradition with a delightful tale of rescue, redemption, and the enduring power of community.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for youth 18 and under. For more information and tickets, visit nextstagearts.org.
