Zara Bodé’s Little Big Band to play a benefit show in Marlboro July 19

MARLBORO-On Sunday, July 19, Zara Bodé and her Little Big Band will be performing a benefit concert at Marlboro Community Center, 524 South Rd., from 6 to 8 p.m.

The concert is to benefit the Marlboro Community Center and the Marlboro Fire Department. The Concert will be preceded by a chili supper at 5 p.m., with a look at the new Rescue truck along with family-friendly activities sponsored by the department starting at 4:30 p.m.

Zara Bodé’s Little Big Band is a septet that performs classic American swing music, drawing inspiration from artists like Duke Ellington, Django Reinhardt, and Ella Fitzgerald.

The band features Bodé, also known for her work with The Sweetback Sisters, on vocals and a horn section led by clarinetist and arranger Anna Patton. Other members include Ty Gibbons on upright bass, Alton Lathrop on guitar, Ron Kelly on saxophone, Don Anderson on trumpet, Riley Goodemote on trombone and Stefan Amidon on drums.

Known for their vibrant and fresh takes on old radio hits, delivered with “aplomb and affection,” the Little Big Band is a regional favorite in southern Vermont.

Tickets for the concert are $15 each, or $35 per family. The chili supper is by donation, and there will also be a 50/50 cash raffle. Lawn chairs and dancing shoes are recommended. The event will happen rain or shine; the supper and concert will be held inside in case of inclement weather.
