SAXTONS RIVER-I read this article by Joyce Marcel expecting some background on the issue. Usually The Commons provides long (often too long) articles that go deeply into the material. Not so in this case.
Although there is plenty of background on why thousands of Afrikaners are being profusely welcomed into the USA (while other groups like Afghans have been shut out), none of it appeared in the article. Nor was there any perspective on the issue from the South African government.
The only comment was from Ethiopian Community Development Council Executive Director Joe Wiah, who referenced the problem the resettlement might be for ECDC volunteers. But no volunteers were interviewed.
For a lead front page story, I found this article fell short of my expectations.
