GUILFORD-Road Dogs, three harmony-loving crooners “with a serious soft spot for a good howl,” will perform at an upcoming concert at the Guilford Community Park Pavilion, 24 Church Drive, Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 6:30 p.m.
Their sound “tips its hat to the Roches and the Wailin’ Jennys, serving up a musical experience that’s equal parts heart-melting and tail-wagging fun,” wrote event promoters in a news release.
Lexi Ugelow, Emma Rothman, and Maisie Dolan met while touring with the teen choir Village Harmony and officially formed the Road Dogs in 2022, so named because their long-distance friendships meant that a road trip was always in the cards to get together to sing.
Along with their arrangements of covers by the likes of Paul Simon and the odd traditional folk song, too, they write originals for the group, always seeking to layer more harmonies and keep humor in the mix. “Their masterful vocal agility is carried off with a casual, almost off-handed flair, and each voice somehow shines while also syncing up with seamless timing and a zinging blend,” wrote organizers.
“For me, personally, Road Dogs is special because it feels like singing with other versions of myself,” Rothman wrote in the news release. “There is an ineffable sharing of musical sensibility that I have never experienced.... I love my dogs!”
“We like performing outside, like the dogs we are,” adds Rothman.
Admission is by donation ($15–$25 suggested, but no one will be turned away.) 802 Soul Kitchen will be serving dinner fare and there will be a raffle drawing for an intricate, handmade cutting board. If the weather necessitates moving indoors, the event will be in the Guilford Community Church next door.
