Mixed weather, rain ends the week and extends into Memorial Day Weekend

May this day be a great one for you and yours! After some fair weather on Wednesday, we will be looking at more rain pushing back into the region for Thursday into Friday.

Fortunately for us, the drought has been completely mitigated in southern Vermont, so we are in good shape. At this point, we need some longer stretches of sunny, warm, dry days. However, this will not be our lot for the coming week.

After a drier period of weather Friday night into the first part of Sunday, we should see more rain Sunday night into Memorial Day to close out the unofficial kickoff to the Summer of 2017. Now, on to the details!

For Wednesday, high pressure will dominate the region, and provide us with a pleasant, calm, and partly sunny day with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Meanwhile, low pressure will be forming in the southern Ohio Valley and pushing east-northeast into the Mid-Atlantic region. This will cause clouds to increase Wednesday night, as lows dip down to near 50 degrees.

For Thursday, showers will overspread the region sometime on Thursday morning and continue through the day, night, and into Friday morning. There may be some lulls here and there, but the rain will also fall heavy and/or steady at times. Highs on Thursday will only get up to about 60 degrees, with lows in the upper 40s.

For Friday, showers and rain will continue for at least the first half of the day, before tapering to more isolated to scattered showers. Highs again will be near 60 degrees, and lows will drop to near 50 degrees.

For the Saturday to Sunday morning period, we should experience a brief period of higher pressures and drier conditions.

Saturday is definitely the pick of the holiday weekend, with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 60s, and lows near 50 degrees. By Sunday, clouds will be increasing as another storm pushes in from the west, allowing scattered showers to develop Sunday afternoon, and especially Sunday night into Memorial Day itself.

As of now, it looks like the second half of Memorial Day could dry out, and Tuesday looks to be a fair weather day, with highs from Sunday through Tuesday likely to crest into the seasonable 60s. Have a great week!
