Biss performs Beethoven, Brahms at Marlboro Music

MARLBORO-Marlboro Music's 2025 summer season enters its third concert weekend with performances by co-Artistic Director Jonathan Biss and 16 more resident artists on Saturday, Aug. 2, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 3, at 2:30 p.m. Concerts and open rehearsals continue through Sunday, August 17, in Persons Auditorium, 2472 South Rd. Each performing ensemble includes a combination of experienced and emerging musicians.

The weekend opens with the Brahms Clarinet Trio in A minor, Op. 114, with Biss, clarinetist Jonathan Leibovitz, and cellist Annie Jacobs-Perkins. Biss will also perform in Sunday afternoon's program, collaborating with tenor Eric Finbarr Carey on Beethoven's "An die ferne Geliebte," Op. 98.

Senior string players Sara Bitlloch (of the Elias Quartet) and Peter Stumpf (former cellist of the Johannes Quartet) also feature on both programs. On Saturday, violinist Bitlloch will play Mozart's String Quartet in C major, K. 465, with three emerging string players: violinist Tiffany Chang, violist Samuel Rosenthal, and cellist Macintyre Taback, followed by Mr. Stumpf performing Brahms's Piano Trio in C major, Op. 87, with senior pianist Zoltán Fejérvári and violinist Masha Lakisova.

Sunday's concert begins with Schumann's Piano Trio in F major, Op. 80, with Ms. Bitlloch, pianist Solomon Ge, and cellist Elena Ariza. Concluding the weekend is the Mendelssohn String Quintet in A major, Op. 18, performed by Mr. Stumpf, violinists Samuel Andonian and Yebin Yoo, and violists Laura Liu and Njord Fossnes.

Limited seating is available for Saturday evening's concert. Tickets are $20–40 and may be purchased at marlboromusic.org or by calling the Marlboro box office at 802-258-9331. Sunday's performance is sold out; a waiting list is maintained for returned tickets.

Audiences are invited to free open rehearsals throughout the week in Persons Auditorium. Rehearsal schedules are announced at the beginning of each week and include many works that will be performed at the following weekend's concert. Admission to the rehearsals is free, and no tickets or advance signup is needed.
