BRATTLEBORO-Join Director Bob Thies and Rock Voices Brattleboro, a community rock choir, for an evening of choral music at Centre Congregational Church, 193 Main St., at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 1.
Rock Voices is backed by a full, professional rock band and features the harmonies of founder Tony Lechner's arrangements sung by a 100-voice choir.
This season's songs are all one-hit wonders, including many familiar songs: "Rockin' Robin," "The Boy from New York City," "Video Killed the Radio Star," "Somebody That I Used to Know," "Take On Me," and "O-o-h Child."
There will be a basket raffle to raise money for The Root Social Justice Center, a Vermont-based, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC)–led racial justice organization centering Blackness. According to the organization's website, the Root prioritizes BIPOC people and their communities by shifting resources to BIPOC for leadership, connection, healing, education and the arts and supports BIPOC-led racial justice movement work.
The fall session of Rock Voices will begin soon. Those wishing to join the choir's future performances can visit RockVoices.com to sign up for their official mailing list and learn when registration opens.
Doors for the concert open at 7 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $10 for students. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
Tickets are available online at Eventbrite and may also be available at the door.
