Democratic candidates for lt. gov. will face off in forum

BELLOWS FALLS-The Windham County Democratic Committee will host a Vermont Lieutenant Governor forum featuring Democratic candidates Esther Charlestin, Molly Gray, and Ryan McLaren, moderated by Amy Howlett, Thursday July 9, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Masonic Temple, 61 Westminster St.

The public is invited to attend and hear the candidates discuss the issues and policy priorities shaping communities across Windham County and Vermont. Affordability, housing, healthcare, and education will be among the major topics discussed.

Esther Charlestin says her “people first” campaign focuses on affordability, expanding educational opportunity, and lowering the cost of living. According to Charlestin, “I’m centering people first, not politics, not institutions, not connections.”

Molly Gray says she is running on the platform of protecting fundamental rights, lowering costs, and making life better for working families. This includes fighting for affordable childcare and eldercare, universal paid family and medical leave, and urgent healthcare reforms.

Ryan McLaren has worked as a senior advisor and campaign manager for U.S. Sen. Peter Welch and in former Gov. Peter Shumlin’s administration. He says his campaign focuses on affordability, healthcare and housing, including the rising costs of raising a family in Vermont.

The candidates and organizers will be available to answer questions, engage with community members, and provide practical information to attendees.

County Committee Chair Stuart Brown said more than 250 participants “engaged with our two Democratic candidates for Governor” at a recent forum in Brattleboro. “We look forward to voters bringing that same level of engagement to our Lieutenant Governor candidates,” said Brown.

The forum is free and open to all.
