PUTNEY-On view through Aug. 29 at the Putney Public Library, 55 Main St., is a summer exhibition of selected artwork entitled “Part One.”
The current group show includes Putney artists, all of whom recently exhibited their individual work at the library. The eclectic exhibit reflects the Putney community’s interest in arts. The library has served as a venue for art since the early 1980s, when art exhibitions and art auctions became regular events. The new library building, constructed in 2005, reserved several walls for artwork, and a new art hanging system was purchased.
There is art in the Putney library because it “promotes the use of a high-quality, useful collection responsive to diverse community educational, informational, and recreational needs. It serves as a portal to materials beyond the scope of its collection,”according to its Statement of Purpose.
The exhibits in the library present a cross section of varying approaches to art and an introduction to Putney artists, offering them an opportunity to show their artwork in their community and also to connect directly with members of the community.
“I am always excited to see what new artwork arrives, whether it is figurative or abstract; there is such variety, expertise and inventiveness.” said Nancy Storrow, the library’s art curator, in a news release.
On display will be watercolors, fiber work, prints, natural materials, oil paintings and metal work. Artists include Finn Campman, Liz Hawkes deNiord, Basha Freudenberg, Candace Jensen, Jane Kolias, Abigail Littlefield, Bonnie Mennell, Amber Paris, Nina Salvatore, Lynne Weinstein, and Tress Zuverino.
The show will be open during library hours: Monday–Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m, and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
