Crêpe Night at Scott Farm benefits Vermont Independent Media
DUMMERSTON — The first of two August Crêpe Nights at Scott Farm, 707 Kipling Rd., takes place Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Crêpe Nights celebrate the harvest, simple food, music, and community in a picnic-style setting. Outdoor and indoor tables and chairs are provided as well as a sprawling grassy hillside ripe for picnic blankets, folding lawn chairs, and bare feet. The seasonally focused menu includes a salad, savory supper crêpe (galette), and sweet dessert crêpe.
Each dinner is co-hosted by a different local nonprofit who benefits from the evening’s proceeds. The Aug. 5 event supports Vermont Independent Media (VIM), the umbrella organization for The Commons, The Deerfield Valley News, and the Media Mentoring Project.
Founded in 2005, VIM started with the belief that independent journalism is critical for the functioning of democracy and is the lifeblood of a community. Through the publication of The Commons and The Deerfield Valley News, VIM sets a standard for fair and accurate journalism and provides an open forum for diverse voices to discuss important issues within Windham County. Their educational focus provides learning opportunities and internships for young adults and others who want to engage in the essential democratic functions of a free press.
Crêpe Nights happen rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, it will move to the farm’s Apple Barn event space. Tickets are $25 for adults, $12 for children under 12. Reservations are required and can be made at scottfarmvermont.com/upcoming-events-1/vim.
Grace Cottage Hospital Fair Day is Aug. 1
TOWNSHEND — The 76th annual Grace Cottage Hospital Fair Day takes place Saturday, August 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the Townshend Common. As always, admission and parking are free.
Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital relies on this important event to raise crucial funds. This year, all proceeds will go toward the construction of a new primary care clinic building to replace the current aging facility (more information at gracecottage.org/future).
Hospital Fair Day offers a variety of fun activities for the whole family. The auction begins at 9:30 a.m., and the Birthday Parade, led by the Taconic Bagpipers, starts at 10 a.m. Booths offering homemade pies, jewelry, T-shirts, household items, books, food, kids’ games, and $1 pony rides, plus live music and more, will add smiles and festivity to the day.
Vermont photo exhibit in Dummerston
DUMMERSTON — “Chronicles of Vermont Life: Farms, Rivers, and Fairs,” a new photo exhibit by Charles Fish, will be open for viewing Sunday, Aug. 2, and again on Aug. 16, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Dummerston Historical Society in Dummerston Center.
His photos feature glimpses of subjects he has explored on the water, on foot, and in the four books he has authored. All are welcome; there is no admission charge to view the exhibit. For more information, contact [email protected] or [email protected].
BCAT hosts ice cream bike ride
BRATTLEBORO — Brattleboro Community for Active Transportation (BCAT) hosts its fifth monthly social community bicycle ride slated for Monday, August 3, at 6:15 p.m.
This month’s ride is to the Blueberry Haus in Guilford. This is a ride out and back from Living Memorial Park over Guilford Street and Creamery Road to the Blueberry Haus. The ride is about three hilly miles each way. The ride is a family-friendly event, with bicycles, e-bikes, cargo bikes, and other one-, two- or three-wheeled (mostly) self-propelled contraptions welcome.

Senior lunch in Marlboro
MARLBORO — Marlboro Cares Senior Lunch will be held Tuesday, Aug, 4, at noon at the Marlboro Community Center on South Road. Dan and Gail MacArthur will show slides and talk about their recent trip to South Africa, which included going on a safari.

Dover Free Library hosts annual Dessert Social Aug. 5
DOVER — The 2026 Dover Free Library Dessert Social is Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 6 p.m. in the Dover Town Hall. There will be a baking competition, live music, and a tasting party.
This event is free to all, and all food and refreshments are free. Donations are encouraged and appreciated, but entirely optional.
